Besides agriculture, trade and Industries also flourished during the regime of Mughal emperors. People from different European countries landed on the sea-coast of Gujarat, Bengal and Deccan from the point of view of their trade. this industrial growth led India towards peace and prosperity. Bengal, Gujarat and Punjab were the centers of sugar industry and Delhi, Banaras and Chunar were specially known for the clay toys, Kashmir and Karnataka were famous for woodwork and indigo and opium trade also flourished in India. Iron industry was also popularly known but the lack of coal checked the advancement in steel industry. Indians failed to manufacture cannons and rifles of standard quality but they made swards and javelins. Copper and brass were used for making utensils and idols. Delhi was famous for copper industry but Bengal and Banaras were known for brass industry. Ornaments were made of gold, silver and ivory and diamonds were taken from the mines of Golconda and Chhotta Nagpur. Copper mines existed in Rajasthan and Madhya Bharat. The world famous Kohinoor diamond was also found from a mine of Golkunda. Wine and leather industries were not very much developed. Wine was mostly imported from Persia and some other European countries. Glass industry was quite developed and Fatehpur Sikri, Berar and Bihar were its center & perfume was prepared in Jaunpur and Gujrat.

The cloth industry of India was most popular and it produced different varieties of cotton, silk and woolen cloth. Carpet industry flourished in Agra and Fatehpur Sikri. Bengal and Kashmir were also the centers of clothe industry. The Mughal Emperors also established the industries of cloth in Lahore, Deccan, Ahmadabad and Agra. However, the best quality of silk was imported from China, but muslin of Dacca was very famous. Indian cloths were also exported to China, Japan, Persia, Arabia, Egypt and Africa because of their good quality. A famous historian writes, “Indian cotton cloth enjoyed worldwide reputation and the industry flourished till industrial Revolution tool place in England and the British deliberately tried to destroy this industry of India.”
